About

The Society for Protestant Church Polity is an international society that exists for the promotion of the discipline of church polity, the encouragement of connection and collaboration of scholars and practitioners of church polity, and research and scholarship therein.

Promotion of the discipline of church polity

The Society for Protestant Church Polity seeks to raise awareness within the academy and the church of the importance of church polity, not simply as a utilitarian exercise but as a theological discipline. This happens through the various channels that the society does its work.

The encouragement of connection and collaboration of scholars and practitioners of church polity

By organizing into a society, people with expertise and interest in church polity from all over the world are connected in a single organization. People with similar interests are able to find potential collaborators for projects. A newsletter helps to keep the membership informed of publications, lectures, conferences, and events that are of interest to the members.

Research and Scholarship Therein

One of the tasks of the society will be a journal specifically focused on church polity. This would provide a platform for the exchange of ideas and research within the discipline and allow for scholarly engagement. This would also be a platform for engagement with the greater academic theological community. But a journal is only one avenue.

There will be conferences which would benefit scholars in church polity, but also interested parties in law, theology, and the church. Conferences are a place for people to connect, and for the members and others who are interested to come together.

Finally, monographs are another avenue for sharing scholarship on the theory and practice of church polity, and the Society will be active in providing for this, as well.
